Chase's comments to me while were brushing our teeth in the bathroom:
"When you are turning into a kid and when I'm turning into a adult, I can brush your teeth. And I can brush me teeth with your adult toothpaste."
"I have a beeeg peeeeeg." [big pig] In a phase where most "i" sounds are long "eeeee". Cute
After drawing a kind of a snail or slug picture outside - "This is a penis because it has a penis . . . this is a boy because it has a penis."
Outside talking with Maggie under the plum tree - "Maggie, does a scarecrow . . . ? Does a scarecrow . . . ? Does a scarecrow scare? Does a scarecrow . . . ? Does a scarecrow . . . ? Does . . .? Does a scarecrow scare?"
Chase - After asking him what he wants to be when he grows up. "A boy teacher. I want to be a boy teacher and kids can come to my school and learn things."
Chase- In Manzanita, after reading a Winny the Pooh story where it talks about Eyore being gloomy. "Chase, are you happy or gloomy?" - "I'm sad when I have sand in my face and I'm gloomy when I have dirt in my face, and I'm happy when I don't have dirt in my face."

Chase - sitting at the counter with a pen and paper, draws an X. Me - Is is a letter? Chase: "Its not a letter. It's a worm with paddles and paddleboard and these are the paddles and one paddle up and one paddle down dada. Dada, and that's the worm and those are the paddles dada. Dada, I'm drawing the paddles where he's holding the paddles. On the paddleboard. Dad, that's a worm on the paddleboard dada, and that's a snake on the paddleboard."
Chase - when he is trying to get a point across, particularly when on the phone with Vicki or with Aunt Kate: "Vicki, Vicki, Vicki, Vicki, I . . . ." "Aunt Kate, Aunt Kate, Aunt Kate . . . " He keeps saying the person's name until he has their undivided attention, and then launches into what he wants to say, normally in a very stilted way.
Maggie - camping
Maggie/Chase camping at Idiot Creek in July - Mostly fun, sometimes relaxing, and sometimes incredibly difficult. We were at the campsite by about 1:30pm and had the whole afternoon and evening of leisure, hanging around the campsite, exploring the trails nearby, walking around the river area, eating dinner and sitting around the campfire. It only got dark about 9:30pm, so we didn't go into the tent until 10pm.
In the early morning it started raining lightly and we woke up to rain. Our camp chairs were wet, so the kids ate breakfast of oatmeal and cream of wheat in the back of the car. The food inevitably got dirt in it from the kids' hands and they were not happy about this. Maggie freaked out, screaming "I don't like dirty food!" again and again, while flicking cream of wheat off of her plate into the back of the car. From that point on it was survival mode to just get everything packed up to go home.
Needless to say, the car needed a deep clean and vacuum upon returning to Portland. And it took about 5 hours back in Portland to get everything unpacked and cleaned. We need to have a more ready-to-go car camping kit that we can just load into the car.
