5 weeks in - random musings

It has been 5 weeks since I left my job at adidas to pursue more balance in my life. One of the defining characteristics of the time so far has been noticing the feeling of slowing down. I'm creating more buffer between the activities in my days/weeks, and am realizing that for decades I have built up lots of behaviors around cramming as many activities in as possible and being efficient (vs. effective) with my time.

This meant NEVER stopping to do things like adjust the straps on my bike helmet if they were getting uncomfortable, or adjusting my brakes or a rattle on my bike if it were still functional. These were always things that could be deferred to another time, and I would ALWAYS defer them, which meant not doing that thing until it got much worse.

Another silly example is that I realize that I almost never zip up my gym bag fully before leaving the house or the gym. There are 3 pockets, and zipping them up either seemed unnecessary, or like something that could be done while walking. Inevitably, there were times where I'd never get around to zipping them up and then things would fall out. I'm trying to now build the habit of zipping them up!

Ok, so these  things may not seem particularly interesting to you. That is okay, I've come to terms with the fact that I'm not writing this blog to entertain or to draw a huge audience, but rather to give myself some time and space to write things down.
