Mayday, mayday!

Captain's log: May first, 2020. We've now been in quarantine for approximately 50 days, starting right around Maggie's birthday where she was sick and wasn't going to school. The kids are fine and healthy. Annie and I are also fine, and healthy.

  • Annie picked up a Buzz Lightyear 18" plastic action figure with sounds and spring-loaded wings a week ago. We opened it up, and set it up so it was sitting on the corner of the dining table as a surprise gift for Chase. He was outside, then wandered inside and saw it for the first time. He came running out of the house to me crying, saying "There's a lightyear, there's a lightyear, I don't like it!" A few minutes later he calmed down and I was able to pick him up and go in and explore. As I was holding him and he was able to look at Buzz more closely, it all of a sudden dawned on him, "Oh! It's a toy. It's just a toy!" For minutes, he had thought that a real Buzz Lightyear had invaded our home and was sitting at the dining room table. A minute later, when he was pushing the buttons and Buzz was making electronic talking and laser noises, he was back to being terrified. They've been inseparable for 5 days now. When Buzz talks, Chase always says, "The man is talking to Lightyear."
  • Washed the car with the kids yesterday. Both wore their bathing suits. Maggie had much more staying power, and was perfectly happy to stand up on the front left tire of the car and just scrub the windshield for 10 minutes.
  • Lots of silly singing has been happening in our house. "Do you know the mushroom king, the mushroom king, the mushroom king? Do you know the mushroom king, who lives on Ivy street?"
