We are still deep into our socially distanced quarantine period, with no real end in sight. The state governments of the western states have put together a rough plan that essentially says things will open up as the data shows that it is safe to do so. But, lots of time with family and not too much pressure to go crazy with activities. Recent stories:
- Maggie, Chase and I went down to Laurelhurst park the other afternoon and brought boats to play with in the water. We brought the green boat that the polar bear used to float in, and the red and yellow plastic boat for the tub. Both boats had long string tied to them so the boats could be tossed in the water and then pulled along with the string, but the string doesn't do much good if one isn't holding on to it. Needless to say, we departed the park without either of the boats. But, the trip was fun and was mostly spent tossing wood chips into the water.
- Maggie and Chase are sometimes playing really well together and getting along. We went for a 5 mile stroller run yesterday and they sang songs to each other and snuggled. No fighting.
- Chase is playing with his penis a lot right now. He comments about "Here is the hole where the pee pee comes out", and then pokes his finger in as far as it will go.
- Chase is using the line "I'm having trouble" or "I'm having a lot of trouble right now" is pretty funny ways.
- The kids are still very much into the planets and the planet songs. "Yea, Venus is the hottest" or "Yea, Jupiter is the biggest" are common comments from Chase. And random songs involving Maki Maki and Ceres, dwarf planets.
- We were playing the graveyard game yesterday and Maggie and Chase both really like it. Chase lies still on the ground and clamps his eyes shut as hard as he can for about 10 seconds before he gets tired of the whole thing. Maggie is much better.
- Lots of discussion about "the sickness", and the kids are finding lots of things which can be attributed to the sickness, sometimes true sometimes not. They were playing in a cardboard box in the yard and pretending it was a car. Chase was the driver, in the front, and Maggie was in the back. Chase said that they'd arrived at the North Pole. Maggie was about to get out, and Chase said, "No, we can't get out. The North Pole is closed. Because of the sickness." The phrase "because of the sickness" concludes many a sentence.
