Kids Stuff + Baby Dinosaur Book

I need to be writing more about Maggie and Chase. I intended to do this when I left my job, but haven't done it nearly enough. I write short phrases in my "sentence a day" journal, but those are mostly just to jog a memory of something or to capture a short quote, vs. to document the phase of life that the kids are in, or a longer story. Frankly, there isn't the external accountability, and it is easy to think of something else that is more pressing. But, this is really important. We have lots of photos and videos accumulating in our shared itunes albums, which is nice, but again, there aren't details behind the photos.

I've kept a few quotes in draft form on this blog, and realize that I just need to commit to being willing to pump out any little story or quote as its own blog post whenever the opportunity arises. Here goes.

Maggie

"I want to be a ballerina riding on a horse, and when I’m done, and then I want to be a doctor, and when I’m done with that I want to be a regular ballerina, and then a cowboy, or a cowgirl because I’m a girl. And then after all those things I want to be a mama." - May 2019

"I like to wear dresses that show my nipples." - July 2019

Chase
Chase and Maggie reading books on the couch. "What are you guys doing?"
Chase: "Reading our 'boots' (books) dada. Reading bears boots."

Chase holding onto the doctor tools kit and then holding the Anna doll with her arms pressed around the handle of the doctor kit. "Hold on tight, Anna."

Exchanges

Spring 2019 Maggie: "Chase, look in the toilet at my poo poo."
Chase: "Poo poo."
Maggie: "Chase likes to look at my poo poo. Every time I go poo poo Chase looks at it"

August 2019 - Maggie and Chase sitting on the floor together with big Legos. "What are you both building?"
Maggie: "I'm building a train"
Chase, in very slow methodical speech: "I'm . . . doing . . . other . . . things."

September 2019 - Maggie spent over an hour making a story and drawing pictures to go along with it. She was really proud of the book and wanted to show it off to me and mom, who was visiting. When I asked Maggie to share it with me, she had me sit down in the living room chair, then pulled up the ottoman and sat on it across from me. She held the book in her lap and read it to me as if she were the story-time host. She isn't reading now, but was able to recite the words nearly perfectly because she was the one that wrote the book. She was very happy and excited about this book.
